Values on the GDW

Previous pageReturn to chapter overviewNext page

Values of variables and instrument parameters shown on the GDW may show their value:

ProcessValue

or instead of showing the value it may show one of the following:

N/R        - No Response

N/R will be shown when:

1: SpecView is Offline or

2: When an instrument is not connected or

3: There is some problem with communications.

NPV        - Not Present Value

Some common examples of this are:

1: Programmer instruments, where segment variables change their availability depending on segment type, for example, if the Segment type is set to 'Time' then the 'Rate' value would be NPV.

2: Instruments where optional hardware is not present, for example if output boards are not fitted, or auxilliary inputs are not configured/fitted.

3: If a thermocouple goes out of range.

If NPV is shown erroneously then set the driver command NPV = -1  (minus one) this will show the underlying value, instead of NPV.

NCA        - Not Currently Available

All values are set to NCA when online before they are filled in, but those that have no values, such as PasswordUser when passwords are not enabled will stay as NCA.

N/C        - No Change - used in Recipes

This is used in Recipes when a value doesn't need to be set by the recipe:

RecipeNC

T/O        - Time Out

This is when a request for an instrument's parameter times-out over comms, for example if the instrument was switched off.

W/O        - Write Only

This is when a variable can be written to but not read.
