Read Only Variable

Previous pageReturn to chapter overviewNext page

A Read-Only variable is either an instrument variable that cannot be changed over communications, for example, a measurement,

or another instrument variable (or a SpecView User Variable) that has specifically been set to Read-Only so it cannot be accidentally changed.

The Variables List has an 'R' column which shows which variables are Read-Only:

VariablesList_Properties

The 'R' column of the Variables List shows which parameters are Read-Only and double-clicking in the box in the 'R' column will set (or unset) this.

Alternatively select the parameter and click Properties and use the Attributes tab to set (or unset) whether the parameter is Read-Only.

However, parameters on an instrument that cannot be changed are always read-only (for example a measurement), consequently these cannot be unset.

Read-Only variables can be changed by the Strategy Controller, but when specifying an Action that sets a Read-Only variable, uncheck the 'Read-Only' attribute in the Variables List and setup the Strategy logic first and then set the variable back to Read-Only.
