Bar Codes

SpecView can accept text or numeric data from bar Code Scanners in one of two ways:

  1. Serial Interface - where the bar code scanner present’s its data through a serial port.  This appears as a SpecView Instrument Parameter can can be used from there.  This method is ideally suited to unattended barcode scanning
  2. Keyboard Wedge - this is where the barcode scanner plugs into the keyboard interface to the PC so that entry of the the numeric barcode appears as if it had been typed at the keyboard.  SpecView can accept this data as the entry to a Variable, but this tends to be more of a manual process than automated.

In either case, when the barcode is in the system, it can be shown on screen, logged or used to trigger events in the Strategy Controller
